Bungee's Story

THE CALL TO BICHON RESCUE

The lady from a shelter south of us called to confirm that I was to meet a transport volunteer to pick up a little Bichon Maltese at 7 pm that evening in Knoxville.  As an aside, she said she had another dog that an owner really needed to turn in and did I have room?
Five hours later I saw two cute faces peeking through the transport volunteers car windows.  One was a tiny maltese boy with big worried eyes, the other was a jumbo size bichon with a bright smile and a big wag of the tail.

SO WHAT'S THE STORY?

We were to find out that the big happy face cloaked a very high anxiety fluff who happened to have a fish hook imbedded within his lower lip.
(To the owner's credit, she told me this in one of our conversations . . . . saying her son had tried to get it out with pliers but wasn't successful.)  Immediate surgery removed that nasty fish hook, but it's taken much longer to begin building a relaxed confidence and reduce that constant anxiety in this magnificent boy we call 'Bungee'.

THE LESSON IN HIS HISTORY

When we dug into the history of this dog, we found that he'd been purchased as a 'surprise' for an elderly couple.  Oh I'll bet they were surprised!! He was likely a VERY cute little bundle of fur at that point in time.  . . . but we also learned that he quickly became way too much of an active puppy for them to handle and was given to their vet to place.

     From that point on he was passed along ..  and passed along . . . .and passed along . . . .and passed along . . . . and passed along . . . . and passed along . . . . and passed along . . . .  and passed along.

Because of the constant 'bounciness' within his temperament, his ever growing size and his increasing separation anxiety as he left those he loved and was shuffled from home to home to home to home to home to home  ... Bungee was becoming an ever increasingly difficult to handle and live with.

"What's this ????
Yeeks ... It's a fish hook  in his face !!!"
